The location is good in the city, with a Magnum supermarket, a currency exchange, a bus stop, and the 21 bus that goes straight to Medeu nearby. The worst hostel of all my travels! What you see in the photos when you book looks very different from reality. We stayed in a twin‑room. 1) Security for valuables: the room locks with a flimsy latch, very unreliable. Other guests constantly pass by the room. Leaving money and a laptop inside feels scary. The room has a locker with a lock, but there is no key and they won’t give one even if you ask. You can’t keep valuables safe. I had to travel around the city for two days with my laptop in a backpack because I didn’t risk leaving it at Samal Hostel. If you have expensive electronics, there are no lockable lockers even for the admin. 2) Life safety: the hostel has terrible electrical problems. The sockets are open, cables stick out. We had a power short. In one kitchen socket, many power‑hungry devices (kettle, stove) are plugged in – very unsafe. High risk of short circuit and fire. 3) Room hygiene: extremely dirty. The room has other people’s hair, a huge amount of dust and dirt on the floor. The bedding was washed, but it still had many stains and other people’s hair! The pillow smelled bad, probably very old. Sleeping was extremely unpleasant and disgusting. I woke up in the morning and the first thing I felt was the bed’s odor. It felt like I was sleeping in a shed. 4) Shower and toilet: the shower on our floor didn’t work. All two floors had to use the same one, creating a queue. The shower has soap, but the ceiling has mold, a lot of mold! Harmful to health. The tap fixtures are all loose. The shower curtain is grimy. 5) Air conditioner: when I booked, I chose a room with an AC. In reality it didn’t work! In fact, at check‑in we were told it wasn’t working and we would have to live without it. Later, when I wrote to the hostel owner asking to leave early and get a refund, the admin gave us a remote. The remote was only temporary. It turned out the remote was one for the whole hostel and after a few hours the admin took it back.
