“Mixed feelings, but glad we went there”
Despite its remote location, the place is fantastic. I enjoyed the morning trek and took a solo 7 km hike nearby. The garden was well maintained and added to the beauty. Surrounded by wildlife, the property feels like three distinct zones—rainforest, grassy meadows, and rippled tea hedges—all packed into a small area. The comfort level was high for such isolation: hot shower, electricity, kettle, and a large, comfortable bed. Even with high humidity, the room stayed clean and we didn’t encounter insects or vermin. I did book hastily and didn’t realize arrival had to be by 6:00 PM; I had to skip a day because I couldn’t get there on time and felt uneasy about safety. Driving to Munnar from a beach town in Kerala is long, and the ascent feels extreme—probably not suitable for families with kids. Watch out for leeches and ticks! Sometimes the staff misunderstood me, creating a language barrier. The local food is probably the best available in such a remote area, but we didn’t enjoy it much.
