“Very resort feeling.”
The place was lovely and the pool was fantastic, especially since it was so humid. We were allowed to check in early after arriving by train, which was great. There was nothing we didn’t like about the property.

Phong Nha Lake House Resort is situated on the banks of Dong Suon Lake, offering 24-hour front desk, business centre, and free parking. Complimentary Wi-Fi is available throughout the property. The resort is a 10-minute drive to Phong Nha Cave, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and 20 minutes to Nhat Le Beach. Air-conditioned rooms feature lake views, tiled flooring, and private bathrooms with shower and toiletries.

The staff were incredibly sweet! The view was good and breakfast was nice, but on some days they missed items that were supposed to be included in what we paid for. You could borrow free bicycles, but they were in really bad condition. The room was very worn and clearly needed a renovation compared to the pictures. They treated guests differently depending on whether they paid by card or cash. We ended up paying a 3.5% fee for using a card, which is actually illegal in Vietnam! They advertised motorcycle rentals, but apparently you couldn’t rent one when we asked on site.

The atmosphere felt relaxed, the room was spacious and offered a nice view over the lake, but it sits a little outside Phong Nha’s centre so you always need a day‑trip bus or Grab; they claim bikes and scooters are available, yet we saw no bikes (and they cost extra) and they no longer rent scooters.

Our room was large and spotless, yet after our delayed flight I told the hotel and then a crazy taxi driver only dropped us off at 10 pm; there was no staff around, the receptionist just waved us past the courtyard and we were left with heavy luggage on a huge, dark site, the key simply left at reception, which was unacceptable. We ordered food from the taxi and it was only ready at 8:30 pm because the kitchen had closed, and this morning it was obvious the photos of the “lake”, pool and restaurant had been heavily retouched; breakfast also fell short of what even lower‑rated hotels provide.

Really nice rooms in the villas. Food was excellent and very varied menu. There was a small espresso machine. Nice swimming pools. Breakfast was good. Staff were good at booking a tour and organising an onward bus journey from the hotel. The pool table was old and on a slope, and the table tennis table was not in use.
