“Highly Recommended. Huge facilities and a full vacation environment. Brilliant staff.”
The hotel, built in the 1930s, carries a historic charm that some may not love, but the facilities are impressive. It felt cavernous, and when we arrived tired we couldn’t locate the restaurant—reception actually handed us maps, which was funny. Instead, we stopped at the small café “Morsels,” where two staff members gave us a great chat, setting a friendly tone for the rest of our stay. Throughout the hotel, from reception (including two cheerful Dutch interns), Morsels, the dining room, and the room attendant, everyone was approachable, attentive, and impeccably dressed. I was even mistaken for a staff member because I was dressed up for a wedding, which was amusing. Most guests could have dressed better for breakfast, though. Maintaining a 5‑star standard in such an old building is tough, but the effort is clear. Our King room, apparently an upgrade, had everything we needed and was very comfortable. What I appreciated most was the hotel’s flexibility for our one‑night wedding trip. We arrived around 11 am, and although rooms usually opened at 2 pm, they made one available immediately. We needed breakfast, and even though the restaurant officially stopped at 11 am, the receptionist called and they served us just before 11:30 am. We parked from 11 am through the night and again until about 4 pm the next day, all covered by a single valet fee. The valets were great, even parking our van on the front forecourt for quick access, and they kept a sharp eye on our vehicles—every time I checked on the van, a valet challenged me because they didn’t realize we had two keys. Nothing else to note. Just remember the property’s age: outlets on the floor, a bit more coffee (including decaf) in the rooms would have been nice.
