Since the complex actually comprises three hotels sharing a restaurant, thermal pools and spa, we were given a free upgrade to Balnea, so this isn’t really a Kristal review; Balnea is currently the most luxurious, the third hotel is under renovation, the modern hotel is nice, staff are professional in English, German and French, it’s quiet, and our fourth‑floor room with balcony was very spacious with a handy luggage rack for two large suitcases, a great bathroom with plenty of space, a decent shower that drained slowly but was roomy, and a very comfortable bed. The thermal area is open to day‑visitors and we always found lounge chairs in the afternoon; it can get very sunny late morning to midday, which is a plus unless you visit in peak summer. There are three pools – one for slides, one for kids, and a large main pool where even toddlers in nappies were allowed, though that was rare. The sauna area looked nice but we didn’t use it because in August the sauna was “nature” style outdoors. We stayed on half‑board, had a buffet breakfast with a good selection (more salty than sweet, which is typical outside Italy, and Italians tend to be on a diet anyway), though some items like the yogurt weren’t great. Dinner was buffet plus a choice of two main dishes; the buffet’s hearty “spizzico” each night was better than the plated options. Overall the food is decent for an overseas resort, but very demanding diners might prefer staying in Italy.
