“Hotel Jogar is worth recommending”
I was sent on a last‑minute trip by my company and spent hours sifting through more than 1,900 options before picking the Hotel Jogar on Lake Balaton. It sits in the “second row,” about 500 m from the beach on the southern shore of the vast lake in Balatonföldvár, and the town’s restaurant and shopping area is roughly the same distance away. The single‑track train station is closer, offering good links to Budapest and other towns on the southern shore, and the Tihany peninsula and ferry are also nearby. My attic room measured 4 × 3 m, the bathroom 2 × 1 m, and the hallway 2 × 1.7 m; I only used the air conditioning briefly and it worked fine, and there were no mosquitoes. Breakfast was hearty and Hungarian‑style, served from 7 to 10 a.m. on the ground floor, and the 24‑hour front desk was very convenient. The price was reasonable for my budget; at Lake Balaton you can spend over 6,400 € per person per night for a seaside apartment. The only oddity was receiving the TV remote, air‑conditioner remote, and key in a small plastic basket as a deposit, but that might be standard for guests here.
