The environment was great, especially the beautiful beach on the property. BBQ with sunset views and excellent drinks were highlights. Because it was a weekday, lunch was not available and ended early, which was disappointing. After the 10 am SUP session I was looking forward to pizza, but that didn’t happen.

“Really unique setting with great views over Kagoshima bay”

This hotel is a converted schoolhouse right on the oceanfront facing west over Kagoshima Bay. To the north you can see Sakurajima, and in the evening you can watch the sun set behind Kagoshima and the mountains across the bay. The rooms are clean and cute – they still have chalkboards and other school stuff – and are comfortably appointed. There’s a big outdoor area to hang out and a cute treehouse. You can get breakfast and dinner (BBQ) platters, but you have to let the staff know ahead of time before check‑in. We didn’t realize this; when we got to the hotel we had to drive back out to find a convenience store to grab konbini food for dinner. Luckily in Japan even a fairly remote location like this has convenience stores within a 10‑15 minute drive; however, if you’re looking forward to eating real (non‑konbini) food for dinner, let the hotel know several days in advance. We saw some of the BBQ platters being brought out to some camping guests and they looked delicious and generous.

“ホテルの代替には、なりません。”

For Golden Week it was fairly reasonable, and the shirasu tea rice was tasty. There was no bath, no TV, and because no other hotels were available I had to stay, but I had to prepare the bed and sort the trash myself, which was a hassle.

“Widoki, klimat i koza!”

I was thrilled by how perfect everything was, and it was a shame we couldn’t stay longer – we’ll definitely return.
