Wakawaka Hostel Arusha

Great location, within walking distance of the center. The room was very spacious, the bathroom was good, and we enjoyed a stunning view of Mount Meru from our room. Breakfast was good and the staff were kind.

“Exceptional Yousuf”

Yousuf was top‑class in hospitality, going above and beyond expectations. The price of bottled water was a bit high, though not a big issue; they pointed us to a nearby grocery store for a better rate.

The location, the view from the veranda, and the easy walk into town were great, but I liked everything.

This was by far the worst accommodation experience I have ever had. I booked Wakawaka Hostel several months in advance . My reservation was confirmed, and after my first night I paid the full amount for my stay in Tanzanian shillings. Shortly afterwards, the owner suddenly told me through the chat that I had to leave because other guests were supposedly waiting to check in. He even claimed that I had not paid, despite having accepted the payment and sending a photograph of the money himself in the chat. What happened next was completely unacceptable. I was told that my reservation had been cancelled, even though it was still showing as confirmed in the system. I was already staying at the property and was suddenly expected to find somewhere else to sleep. Even worse, I was threatened with having my belongings removed if I did not leave. I have the entire conversation in the chat as evidence. I ultimately had no choice but to leave. The money I had paid was returned, but that does not make the situation acceptable. I had to arrange taxis, find alternative accommodation at very short notice and pay more for a new place to stay. I also lost a huge amount of time dealing with this situation instead of enjoying my holiday. The most shocking part is that this happened after I had already booked and paid for my stay. If you book here, there appears to be no guarantee that your confirmed reservation will actually be respected. I strongly recommend avoiding this hostel. Being told to leave after paying for your stay, while your reservation is still confirmed, is simply unacceptable. I have travelled extensively and stayed in many hostels and hotels, but I have never experienced anything like this. One star is already generous.
