We stayed in a family room, and the refrigerator in the room was a plus, especially with the ice—great. I used the ladies’ bath, but the water was too hot, and from the dining terrace the ladies’ bath was separated by a curtain, which made my daughter uneasy. It would be better if the curtain was a fixed barrier rather than something we had to close ourselves; please consider improving this.

After I showed the owner the blood stain on the mattress, he replaced it with a new one. I’ve traveled for years and never seen such a dirty mattress; the owner said, “You can stay elsewhere.” It was almost eight o’clock, dark outside, so I agreed to move next day and he refunded the remaining two nights of a three‑night stay. The Google map said a half‑hour walk from the station, but it actually took an hour to go up and down a very steep slope—some parts were steeper than others, with a slippery channel that made it impossible to push a suitcase; I had to carry it. The hotel didn’t mention these harsh road conditions in the details—was it to keep people from trying? The mattress had blood stains and various other old stains, and the cover was as thin as Japanese toilet paper; I didn’t even want to flip it for fear of tearing it. I’ve never seen such a thin cover; I wonder where the owner got it—must have taken a lot of effort.

“'Twas a hike but it's ok”

I saved a few hundred dollars compared to a hotel, and the mini onsen was great for unwinding. The walk to the site is steep, so bring a car or call a taxi.

The onsen was very good and hot, the staff were friendly, the room was large, and the tatami room was nice for sleeping.

“とても満足しました”

We were able to use the spring-fed onsen for 40 minutes in a private session with a companion, which was a joy since we chose Izu for the hot springs. When I bought soda water, the host kindly gave us some dried nuts, which was thoughtful. Breakfast was colorful and tasty. I opted for room service, which let me relax in the room. The walk from Ito Station was steep, and I managed it as a training for my butt, but my partner was disappointed (laughs).
