The view was nice, the room was clean and very quiet. The website said check‑in was between 16 and 19, but we needed to arrive earlier in Freiburg, so we asked how to handle it in writing and got no reply. On arrival we tried to arrange a 15:30 check‑in, called the front desk, but the lady on the phone was hard to understand because of kids in the background and told us a key was on the window sill beside the front door. The first thing at the parking lot was a steep climb to the “hotel,” a real challenge for older people, with old furniture and air‑conditioners on either side of the entrance. Inside the building there was a musty smell like a grandmother’s basement. The room itself was very disappointing: clean but 1970s style, red‑brown carpet, brown‑beige bathroom, orange curtains. No staff were visible or reachable after 16:00. After a half‑hour break we called the owner again for the Wi‑Fi password because nothing was on the room, and there was still a lot of kids’ noise. We were still confused about when we would arrive. It was a surprise that we were already there and which room we would be in. Room 11, as we had agreed on the first call, where the key was left. At least a 20‑digit code was given immediately, but no greeting or explanation. There are three Wi‑Fi networks for Hotel Eichberg, but none accepted the code; we had to choose the Magenta network, which makes sense. Soon after we headed to Freiburg. On the way we got a call asking if we had arrived yet. We explained that we were already there, now heading back to Freiburg.
