We were thrilled with the location and the breakfast, and the room itself was modern and nice, though the bed felt a bit hard for my taste.

“I will not stay there again.”

The location was fine. When checking in, I expected the front desk staff to request everything from my wallet at once instead of waiting until I had set my glasses down and put the wallet away before asking for a credit card after collecting my photo ID earlier. It would save time and improve efficiency to combine those steps, especially since I was juggling hand luggage and a walking stick. I asked for a firm bed but it was too soft; the pillows were lovely. The thermostat was set to 25 °C when I entered the room, wasting power and making it far too hot for sleeping. I lowered it a bit, but it remained hot most of the night, so I didn’t sleep well—normally I’m a very good sleeper. The TV didn’t work properly on any channel; speech was blurred and the picture seemed affected by electrical interference, and even in the morning I couldn’t get the early news clearly.

“Easy to book and check in and out”

Check‑in was easy and the staff were helpful.

“Great location, good staff and restaurant.”

The Maestro restaurant is very good for a mid‑star hotel dinner, and the staff were excellent. For breakfast the hot buffet items were mostly half‑cold because they cook in huge quantities. Rooms were comfortable and the bedding was good. It’s located in the arts district. The shower was inconsistent, turning scalding hot then cool about six times during one shower. We were given rooms 1604 and 1605 as adjoining without asking if that was okay; 1605 was noisy and disturbed our sleep around midnight and at 5 pm. The art and decor are very generic, which is a shame—hotels in similar cities, like Newcastle, use art, photos and prints that are relevant to the site.
