Reykjavík Central Guesthouse

Communication was straightforward, the bedroom was clean and functional. The only issue: no seating area.

“Das Haus gehört dringend in Stand gesetzt.”

Power outages were irregular. Water damage on the dining room ceiling, right next to the lamp. The door squeaks terribly at the bottom. There are damages everywhere, like a broken outlet in the bathroom.

“Minden megvan, hogy otthon érezd magad.”

The hotel sits right in the city center, just a 10‑minute walk from the bus terminal, so if you’re arriving by bus from the airport it’s super convenient. The organized bus tours are within arm’s reach, which is a must‑do in Iceland unless you’re driving yourself. It’s one of the cheapest places to stay, yet it feels like home, a pleasant surprise compared to other cheap European accommodations. With public transport you can reach the city center in 5 minutes and the farthest sights in 15‑20 minutes. Check‑in is done by code sent in advance, so you never have to meet staff and it’s easy even for those who don’t speak much English. The only downside was the washing machine, which looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in ages, but it still washed clothes cleaner than my own machine.

The place is comfortable and well‑located. Everything else was fine.

The shared kitchen had all the gear you’d need to cook instead of eating out, which can get pricey. The guesthouse’s proximity to the BSI bus terminal made my airport transfer a breeze. I’d recommend separating the shared showers from the toilets; that way the facilities could be used by more people at once and would run smoother.
