The bath was relaxing, and the Dyson dryer, bath towels, and extra towels were a real help. The room felt a bit dim.

Matsuya Bekkan, a serene retreat, offers western-style rooms with free Wi-Fi and private parking. Wooden furnishings adorn the rooms, which feature TVs, private bathrooms with baths and showers, and free toiletries. Guests can enjoy local cuisine at Higo Dining Solo, explore Suizenji Jo-juen Japanese garden, and visit Natsume Soseki's old house, all within easy reach, near Suizenji Station.

Restaurant and the spa were top notch. Nicest Onsen we've been in a while! Super comfy, big and private. As for restaurant - the food was exceptional and we tried a lot of local specialities!

I had an excellent stay at this hotel. Its location is ideal, right next to shops, the tram, and the JR Line, making travel easy and enjoyable. The hotel offers a beautiful standard with modern facilities while preserving a genuine Japanese identity. I especially loved its refined, calm, and traditional atmosphere, which added a lot of charm and authenticity. The spa and onsen were outstanding, providing a truly relaxing moment after sightseeing, with impeccable installations and a very soothing ambiance. Thanks to the entire staff, who were always smiling, attentive, and caring throughout the stay. Their kindness and service made the experience even better. The first room had strong elevator machinery noise, but after speaking with the front desk, I was quickly moved to another room—though the mini‑fridge there still made a lot of noise even at low settings. Still, it’s a minor detail compared to all the hotel’s strengths.

The public onsen was fully equipped with hot and cold baths and a sauna, plus a hair dryer and iron.

The place has a great location and good facilities, but the staff aren’t Japanese and don’t get guests’ needs; they moved several items around and even discarded creams I still wanted to use.
