“Highly recommend staying here”
I highly recommend staying here. I stayed at three different lodgings in Arugam Bay, and this was by far the best. This is one of those places where you can tell the hosts will do anything to make their guests comfortable, including an outdoor fan to make the patio an enjoyable experience. My room was amazing; we had a kitchen stocked with everything I needed, including a blender, kettle, pots/pans, etc. The location is perfect because you have quick access to both the main drag and the beach, yet are tucked away enough that you don't get all the noise.
The location is perfect. Very close to the beach and surfing spot. Everything in the room was perfect. I liked we had free potable water. Sujith was the guy in charge and he was so so helpful every time. The kitchen could be a little better. More utensils. But it’s fine to cook some basics
“Disappointing and not a 4 star property.”
The guy in charge was friendly and did what he could for us. Our plans changed and we had to leave a day early, and we were not charged any additional cost. We were not actually at Alice Rest that we had booked, but the accommodation next door called Eastern Bay. They both seemed to be run by the same person. This is definitely not a 4 star hotel, more like a 2 star. The photos are very old, possibly when the hotels were first opened. The signage is now faded for both properties, and the gardens are overgrown. Our room should have had a garden view, what it actually had was a view of a wall with a chair in front of it. , the room amenities stated the following: Seating area - there was a chair tucked under the desk. Dressing room - the room contained a bed (not 4 posts like the photo's) with mismatched bedding, old towels, a desk, and some shelving. Carpeted - it was concrete Mosquito net - the mosquitoes must have eaten it, as it wasn't there. Tiled / marbled floor - the bathroom was tiled, definitely no marble anywhere. The bathroom stated the following: Bath - there wasn't one, just 3 shower heads. Bathrobe and slippers - not there I didn't expect a palace for what we paid, but the listing on here is definitely misleading. The bedroom itself did seem clean, and the bed was comfy. The bathroom however wasn't the cleanest. The mirror and toilet roll holder still had water splash marks on them, the sink had a hair in it. The soap holder was dirty, and the glass that was in there still had toothpaste residue in it, so clearly these hadn't been cleaned. The room doesn't have a mirror, just the small one in the bathroom. There is also not a proper reception area, just a desk in a small room that is also used for someone to sleep in (there was a curtain with a bed behind it) If you are back packing and not too fussy about your accommodation, then this place is ok, but I personally wouldn't recommend it
Perfect stay for surfers and beach lovers! I had an amazing stay here. The AC worked perfectly and kept the room cool and comfortable the whole time. It was very quiet at night, so I slept peacefully without any disturbances. The location is ideal—just a short walk to the beach and the main surfing point, which made early morning surf sessions super easy. There are also plenty of restaurants nearby, so I never had to go far for a great meal. The room was neat and clean, and the overall atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming. I would definitely stay here again. Highly recommended!
