“Very disappointed.”
The location was excellent with glorious views from the bedroom window and the bed was incredibly comfortable. Lucie did everything possible to make my stay pleasant, but this was my first night back in the UK after a few weeks touring Europe. I didn’t arrive until 6.45 pm and was very tired, so I didn’t want to go out to eat. I was shown the room and was surprised and disappointed to find that the bathroom was down the hallway. Lucie assured me it was for my use only. Every slight movement in the house caused the floors to creak, so no matter who or where it was, everyone heard the creaking. I am of an age where getting up in the night is normal, which inevitably meant I would disturb every other resident and I would need to get dressed. I waited until about 10 pm before having a shower. Sorry, no shower, just a bath with a handheld shower attachment. No shower curtain, in fact no curtain on the clear glass window either. I decided to have a good wash instead. Big old-fashioned sink, 2 taps. Unfortunately only the hot (very very hot) tap works. It says towels are provided but the only towel I could find was wet and used and in a heap on the floor. So much for the bathroom being for my exclusive use. It was too late to find Lucie so I didn’t bother. Breakfast. I went into the breakfast room to find the other guests had eaten and gone. Their debris was still on the table. There were a few individual Alpen sachets and 1 Weetabix which I decided to have. Unfortunately there was only a tablespoon of milk left so I had it dry. The other choice was a packet of croissants individually packaged. A kettle sat on a spare chair but without milk again I didn’t bother. I cut my losses and packed and left.
