The hosts, Tada and Shiyomi, were incredibly welcoming and treated us with great respect. Every detail was flawlessly arranged. Shiyomi welcomed us with a beautifully whisked matcha tea. The 100‑year‑old traditional house is stunning, full of character, and immaculately clean. The futons were very comfortable, giving us a peaceful night’s sleep. If you can, book the room with direct garden access—it's absolutely fantastic!

The welcome in this traditional house, which the owner grew up in, was superb. The house is very cozy, and even though it’s shared with other guests, everything is arranged so co‑habitation goes smoothly. The décor is gorgeous, and the lady, a kimono professor, is always ready to serve you matcha or show you the neighborhood secrets. The quality of the facilities, especially the bedding, is excellent. A small garden is visible when the downstairs room is unoccupied. The living room is spacious and can be used until 23:00 while following the house rules. Near the ryokan, there’s everything you need, including popular izakayas where we didn’t meet any Westerners. We loved it and recommend the lovely, helpful hospitality of our hosts.

The tiny family‑run guest house was very nice. It’s tucked into an atmospheric, quiet corner of Nishijin, quite far from most city highlights, but the main bus lines are only a short walk away. The inn was clean and well‑maintained, though I wish they’d fix the squeaky stairs—it’s embarrassing when you’re returning late and have to go up and down several times. The futon felt thin and a bit hard—maybe it could have been easily fixed, but it was my first time with one. I met the owners once at check‑in; they were friendly and helpful. Despite the minor inconveniences, it was overall great value for money. I’d definitely come back when I’m in Kyoto again.
