Kunming Upland International Youth Hostel near city center

The location is great for exploring the city, close to main attractions and the metro stop. The breakfast was amazing—though not included, it’s definitely worth it, especially the coconut milk drink and waffles with fresh fruit. The room, however, was moldy with a horrible smell; I couldn’t sleep with the window closed and had to run the fan to circulate air, yet some clothes outside the luggage still got damp from the humidity. It’s a decent spot if you just need a base to explore, but the rooms aren’t healthy to stay in.

The hostel’s communal area is very welcoming, especially the garden. The bar offers free flavored water and the reception serves hot herbal tea. My single room was nicely appointed. The hostel is close to the Yungang Buddhist temple and the subway, but Amap doesn’t list the hostel under this name, so getting from the airport was difficult.

The hostel is centrally located - a few minutes easy walk to Green Lake Park (our favorite area of Kunming). I've stayed several times and continue to return because it is clean, safe, comfortable, and very affordable. At first I hesitated, as I thought hostels are only for young people and one needed to share a dorm room with strangers. While that may be possible here, I always stay in a perfect, private room. and I'm no longer in the category of "youth.
