The reception staff were very friendly and the meals were delicious. The old building had been renovated, but because it was originally old there were some unavoidable flaws. The shared toilet had a Western-style toilet that was hard to turn the body to face the right direction, which was a real hassle, and the washlet didn’t work at all. The room did have a kettle, but no tea set. When I told the front desk, they said there was cold tea in the fridge and asked me to use it, but since I was elderly and wanted hot tea, they brought it over.

The place is set in the mountains and you’re surrounded by nature. The first page of the website claims “non‑smoking rooms”, but when we arrived we were handed a smelly smoking room and told we’d have to pay 2000 Yen per person on site to switch to a non‑smoking room. That’s unreasonable and a misrepresentation of the condition, yet we had to stay in that smoking room.

At both check‑in and check‑out the front desk staff were absent; calling them never got a response. During check‑out, when I tried to leave with my key, no one came to collect it and I just passed them on the street. The room’s air conditioner was moldy and cold, and I couldn’t turn on the heater. I was the only guest staying, yet they told us that because the male hot spring was closed we could use the female hot spring together, which was a blatant breach of etiquette and a serious lack of courtesy. The service and facilities were not worth the price.
