Located in Mértola’s historic centre, Hotel Museu overlooks the Guadiana River and houses an on‑site archaeological museum. We enjoyed the roomy room with a pool and river view, the bed was superb, and the staff were friendly and helpful; the pool area was clean and felt private most of the time. The hotel’s quirky vibe—built over ruins visible in reception—was charming, and we recommend the burger we had for dinner on the last night. However, the cooked breakfast wasn’t hot, so the hotel should find a better way to keep food warm, and the room lacked a fridge.

I stayed by the river and the pool area was a small oasis with plenty of sun loungers – perfect when the weather was warm. A little bar next to the hotel offered drinks and café food. I paid EUR 10,00 for breakfast, which was very generous. The hotel also gave us a bath towel for the pool loungers. My room was clean and the beds were comfortable. It would have been nice to have a small fridge in the room for water or other items, and the prices at the nearby café were a bit high compared to other spots.

The reception was friendly and the room was large. The pool area was tiny and shared with the neighboring hotel, but the view over the river was lovely. The beds were extremely hard and the bathroom could have been cleaned more thoroughly.
