“Cheap and cheerful”

The beachfront spot was solid, but the TV didn’t seem to work.

The spot and the view were fine, yet the so‑called en suite shower was a misrepresentation: a damaged bath with a shower attachment forced us to stand in the plughole to test the weak, temperature‑fluctuating water flow. The bathroom door lock never engaged, and there were no level surfaces big enough to place wash kits. Every wall and door showed damaged decor, the bed mattress was ancient and springs made a “g-boing” sound whenever we moved, slept, or got up. Reception was almost nonexistent; when we asked about dinner, we were told they didn’t serve it—yet the tour‑coach party had dinner. At breakfast, a table for two was denied because it was reserved for the “tour group,” and we were interrogated about our arrival time. The TV was broken all week, with a notice that an engineer was expected to investigate the lack of signal, but nothing changed during our stay. We paid £140 per night for this, which felt like daylight robbery. The receptionist claimed our room was one of the top rooms, presumably because it had a balcony and sea view, and I’d hate to see the others!
