The Golden Fleece Hotel Thirsk

Lovely hotel in an excellent location with a nice bar area and seating. We weren’t in the main body of the hotel, we were in the mews, lovely clean room but no privacy you could hear people’s conversations and moving around, it was 126 pounds and I feel we should have been in the main hotel or it should state mews when booking.

“Sadly not the best stay, at what was one of our favourite hotels”

The hotel is still a reasonable place to visit. I tried three times to get the radiators working in the bathroom, never happened. Also the room heating was timed for about 18/19.00 hrs, not comfortable to stay in the room before dinner. The public areas, bar and restaurant did not have heating all the way into the evening, guests sat with coats on, very poor in a cold snap, not the cosy welcome you would expect, took our business to local pubs. We have stayed numerous times and had great experiences in the hotel, unfortunately the standard has slipped, maybe their costs have risen, but to lower standards to guests as a saving is in my opinion a short‑sighted solution. We recently stayed in Boroughbridge with no reductions in standards at all?

“Perfect location and a lovely hotel”

Great location, lovely friendly staff and good food. The room needs a little attention to details like hoovering the tops of window pelmets and headboard of bed, cleaning the shelf above the bath and behind the bath also shower doesn’t drain properly so water builds up in the tray but these are minor things that are easily remedied.

“Amazing stay, amazing breakfast 10/10”

Location was spot on, staff were fantastic, and the room, dining area and bar were gorgeous.
