Even though it was shared, there were two toilets and the bathroom had a large tub that let me relax. The townhouse design was new to me and quite unique. The reception was separate from the lodging, which made it a bit confusing.

Good WiFi, nice traditional building. The shared bathroom was clean “enough,” but our room wasn’t properly cleaned—black hair everywhere and a bit dusty. The mattresses were hard and the pillows even harder.

I spotted a very cute hostel tucked in a traditional house, with a small kitchen and shared toilet/bathroom, and the rooms matched that cozy vibe—just the right size. Air conditioning was a lifesaver during the hot weather, and the staff were super friendly, even helping us lug our big luggage from the reception to the house. The place is just a short walk from Gojo station, which is only one stop from Kyoto station, so that was super convenient. The reception is in a separate building, but the walk takes less than 10 minutes. The building has thin walls and creaky stairs, so it can get noisy if people ignore the 10 pm quiet time, but everyone was respectful.
