This homestay in Grapetown is a 20‑25 minute taxi ride from the train station and about a 5 minute ride from Turpan’s main township. Grapetown itself feels deserted and not very interesting to walk around, but the homestay is gorgeous, making it a perfect oasis after a busy day in Jiaohe, Karez, or Volcano Winery. The building is beautifully built, painted, and decorated, with a lovely garden behind. The owner and staff were very friendly and accommodating. The rooms were big, spotless, well appointed, with terrific beds, a fantastic bathroom, and AC; there was no refrigerator, so we used the one in the nearby office building. My wife and I, as well as our friends who stayed on the opposite end of the corridor, all agreed we couldn’t have wished for more. The hotel even offered a free washing machine in the garden area. I highly recommend this wonderful property. Pro‑tips: 1) Turpan’s township itself offers little interest; the real attractions are Jiaohe Ancient City, Karez Irrigation Wells, or a desert trip. 2–3 nights suffice depending on driving; a desert trip takes a whole day, the rest can be done in one or two days. 3) English is limited but manageable with translator apps if you don’t speak Chinese. Frankly, I couldn’t fault anything.

A stunning spot, super friendly staff, and a gorgeous room; everyone speaks English and they even run day tours at a decent price. Nothing to complain about!

Dap Guesthouse felt like home for a few days—rooms are simple yet sufficient, and the vibe is great. A big central terrace with cozy alcoves and seating spots lets you chill out, while coffee and cocktails are for sale. The place sits on a shady side street just off the main road, giving a village feel even though the center of Turpan is only a short walk away. I was lucky to have Tant, one of the owners, guide me around the local sights; she was knowledgeable and accommodating. Some staff speak English and can help set up tours and transport. Highly recommended! The only downside was the AC could have been stronger, but that didn’t ruin the stay.

A tiny oasis in the desert, with a super comfy bed and a very quiet spot surrounded by a lovely garden. Breakfast was fine, and everything else was good.
