Bowman Lodge, a family-run Victorian guesthouse, is nestled near historic Chester. The city centre, with its Roman walls and Tudor buildings, is a 20-minute walk away, while the train station is within 10 minutes. Rooms feature TVs, tea and coffee facilities, and en suite bathrooms. Private parking and proximity to Chester Zoo, Blue Planet Aquarium, and Grosvenor Museum make it an ideal base.

The owner let us check in early, which was very helpful, and the location is quite good—about a 20‑minute walk to town. However, the hotel feels tired and run down, the room was dirty (bathroom included) and absolutely tiny. Definitely not recommended.

The place is clean and quiet, and the owner is friendly. It’s a bit far from the centre for walking, and there’s no breakfast, but that was clearly stated before booking.

I stayed here to attend a wedding. The host greeted me, was very informative, and told me where the local shops and restaurants were, which was handy for Chester Zoo and the town centre. The room was spacious enough for three of us and clean—four might be a bit of a squeeze. It was quiet, with plenty of tea and coffee, and the shower was a little cramped but hot and efficient. There’s also a sitting room for guests. The whole place could use an upgrade; it feels very dated, as if nothing has changed since the 80s. The bathroom is old‑fashioned and there’s a crack in the sink. On the bright side, it’s less expensive than most hotels.

The location is excellent and the facilities are very good. The host was friendly and the room was comfortable. A microwave and a fridge are available in a common room, and the water pressure in the shower is good. The room has all the amenities one could need, including TV, hot water, towels, kettle, cups, tea bags, and coffee. Overall, an excellent two‑day stay. The only small issue was that the room could use more attention to detail while cleaning—some drawers, window sills, and wires were dusty.

The friendliness of the host Mike and the location made it easy to go to Chester Zoo. The room was a bit cramped.
