“Did not feel safe”
The price was reasonable and the bedsheets and pillows were clean, but the owner wouldn’t tell us how to open the front roller gate and insisted we call him every time we wanted to go out or in; only later did we find the button near the staircase. We felt like hostages even though we had paid upfront. The room’s “cooler” that replaced the AC was so heavily dust‑coated that adding water would have stopped airflow entirely. The “private bathroom” was actually a shared one, with its door facing the house entrance and living room, so a big towel was needed for privacy. The hairdryer shown in the photos, hung inside the room, couldn’t be used there because it would flip the trip switch, so we had to use it in the living room. The room wasn’t listed as an AC room, yet a broken AC unit on the ceiling was visible and should have been covered. Windows lacked netting, letting bugs in; a dead spider was found by the bedside. The so‑called private kitchen was actually shared with “workers” who could access it at night, storing vegetables, food containers, and fruits in the fridge and taking utensils out. The owner and his family lived in the house and moved out to a half‑constructed building on the same property when guests were over, taking everything they could and requiring us to ask the owner to fetch items. Missing items included…
We booked and paid for two nights but left after one because the bedrooms had spiders and cockroaches and overall cleanliness was poor. The owner’s mother lived in a separate house behind the property and the kitchen was shared with her; the refrigerator was dirty and filled with her food containers, so it didn’t feel like a private guest kitchen. We never received a key to the house. The owner said his mother would lock the house at night, yet the front door was unlocked the next morning, which was concerning. The main rolling gate could only be opened by calling the owner, making independent entry or exit difficult. Privacy was also an issue: while we were out briefly, leaving our son at the house to rest, the owner invited several friends over even though the property had been rented to us. As paying guests, we expected our privacy respected, but it wasn’t. The house was extremely hot; only a small ceiling fan and a small cooling fan were provided, neither effective, making it very uncomfortable. Overall, this stay was very disappointing and did not meet expectations. We left early despite having paid for two nights and wondered if we were treated differently because we were Sri Lankan locals rather than foreign tourists, though we can’t be sure.
Nice place with friendly staff, but the bathroom is separate from the room.
It was a good place to stay: clean, spacious, and the owner was really helpful.
Facilities and cleanliness were lacking.
