“"Stabilitas loci" war zwar anders gedacht - aber ich kehre immer wieder gerne zurück.”
As expected and as described in the ad, I found the hostel in cloistered quiet. From Bramsche station (about 5 km) there seems to be a bus or taxi service at times. It’s reachable by bike via well‑built paths. I was greeted warmly, and the bike can be safely stored overnight; I’m not sure if there’s an e‑bike charging spot yet—just ask, the friendly hosts can arrange it. I chose a room in the former monastery building because the ancient structure appealed more than the newer, cheaper room in the guesthouse. The furnishings are simple, the bathroom tiny but very clean, and there’s a multi‑plug with a 3 m cord for charging phones. Through the window you see part of the spacious monastery garden overlooking the church, which is still in use. It’s worth a longer look despite its baroque style, though it will be closed for restoration in the fall and winter of 2026/27. Somewhere on the grounds there must be a small sauna. I recover quickly there! With a small group, you can spend a weekend in the monastery or guesthouse. Besides the well‑equipped kitchen, there are group rooms, some with a piano. The café has few visitors; by luck you might meet one of the two nuns who live there, leading to a longer, interesting conversation. You can enjoy various drinks and a small but warm dinner in the evening. The terrace under trees invites you to eat. Money goes into the ready cash box. As in the monastery, a lot is based on trust. I hope all guests reciprocate that trust. The harpsichord in the group room needs repair and tuning—it would be worthwhile because it sounds good. For wheelchair users and those with mobility issues, check the ground‑level rooms; many rooms are only reachable by a staircase (though with flat steps) on the first floor. In the 14th century elevators were rarely installed… The cloister has lost some character due to its apparent use for banquets.
