“After a nice start ,then profoundly disappointing when the building work kicked in.”
The bed was comfy, the room was well kept, and the breakfast selection was good, but the sudden shift from a gorgeous balcony view of vibrant flowers, a lovely outdoor breakfast area, and a quiet sound‑proof room to a view of dying foliage scattered across the grounds was jarring. The balcony became unusable because of loud building work, and privacy was lost as builders worked on the balconies next to ours. We were woken around 8.00 am by that same construction noise, and the breakfast area was moved in an unpleasant way. The coffee was awful, but that was a small issue compared to the ugly transition from paradise to a noisy, dusty construction site. The rooms around us were being gutted, and our room was literally in the middle of the chaos; I suspect the builders moved in right after we checked out. Our room should never have been offered to paying guests under those conditions. We were offered a tiny replacement room, but it wouldn’t have made much difference given the disruption, so we stayed where we were.
