This house is a stunning example of tropical modernism popularized by Geoffrey Bawa. The garden is a sanctuary for monkeys and birds, filled with a wide variety of trees and plants. The owners were charming—especially Oshadi—and the caretaker/cook was also very nice and helpful. They have two adorable cats and a visiting cat, which thrilled us because we love cats 🐈 😻. The bathroom wasn’t very clean when we first checked in; there was mold on the toilet seat. The owner fixed it promptly and brought it up to a good standard.

Oshadi, her husband, and the housekeeper gave us a very warm welcome in Colombo. The villa is a bit out of the way, but we deliberately chose not to stay in the bustle of Colombo on our first stop. The villa is thoughtfully detailed, and we were even provided snacks late at night after a tiring journey. Nothing else.

The spot is gorgeous, right on the road from Colombo to Ahangama, and the people are super friendly. The house is colonial‑styled, designed by an architect inspired by the famous Sri Lankan architect George Bawa, and it looks amazing. The garden and pool give a true island vibe, and the décor mixes European and colonial touches beautifully. Breakfast was delightful and we were warmly welcomed. We definitely recommend this place as a perfect first stop on the route!
