We only stayed one night at this great place before heading home. Among our Sri Lankan accommodations, this was the most unique in terms of location; standing on the riverside felt almost indescribable as thousands of bats began hunting. The kids loved the pool and the river safari, where we encountered many animals and even fed monkeys from our hands. The staff were super helpful, and we wholeheartedly recommend this place! 🙂

The hotel is amazing with beautiful people! My kids loved Bentota Lagoon, spotting thousands of flying foxes, varans, and kingfishers. The food was fantastic—every dish was fresh, delicious, and cooked with great care. We went on a river safari, which was absolutely amazing. My child adored the little fishing spot in the mangroves, spending hours with a fishing stick given by the owner. Kitchen boys helped him, almost babysitting for most of our stay, and they assisted him so much that he cried when we had to leave. One night, village people came for crab fishing, which was cool to watch. The owner gave us delicious mangoes as a farewell gift. Lagoon Bentota is run with great love, evident immediately. Everything is clean and new. The room is comfortable with all necessities. Lakeside is calm, free from traffic noise; you only hear animals and temple and mosque voices. Beautiful! An amazing experience for my children and me! Thank you Bentota Lagoon!

Everything pleased us at this accommodation, especially the beautiful location on the Bentota River and the extremely friendly family running it. It’s built across generations, and you feel the passion they share about the place—father made almost everything himself, grandfather still helps, and the son now runs the resort. We celebrated my wife’s birthday here, surprising her with a cake and a generous, tasty breakfast. In the evening we had a fantastic dinner featuring fresh fish caught that morning. At the end of the afternoon we took a river safari with the son, who passionately explained the surroundings. Nothing negative.

A nice swimming pool in a very beautiful and well‑kept garden with a view of the river. The staff were helpful and friendly. Definitely a very good place to stay!
