The owner was very kind and thorough, pointing out great spots around Otaru beyond the usual. We didn’t get a chance to chat much before checkout because everything was rushing, but I’m sure they’re happy to share more if asked. The room was a spacious private suite and the sheets felt clean. It was raining, yet they kindly lent us a plastic umbrella. The building feels old, with a bit of character and some floor stains that show its age.

The place was still under construction, designed for long stays, with only single rooms or rooms for several people; the bath and toilet were shared. No TV, but a tablet would have been fine. Food service is still pending approval from the health department, and the review says the review process is slow. Interacting with the host feels like it will become very comfortable once you get used to it. It seems foreigners are staying a lot now, and the old‑school construction vibe might allow for extended stays. The toilet, which foreigners apparently tend to damage, was under repair this time (just a leak, but it worked). The host is still young, and it would be great to see this hotel revived. Having meals served would be a big plus.

The caretaker is a wonderful person! There’s a kitchen and you can cook yourself. The bed is the best ever.
