A short history
Hunstanton began as two distinct settlements. Old Hunstanton existed for centuries around the Le Strange family estate. In 1846, Henry Styleman Le Strange decided to build a brand-new resort town on land south of the village. He funded a railway link from King's Lynn in 1862, bringing thousands of Victorian holidaymakers to his purpose-built town.

Hunstanton is compact enough to explore entirely on foot. Local buses connect the town centre to Old Hunstanton and adjacent villages along the Coast Road. You do not need a car inside town, but parking spaces fill rapidly on summer weekends.
